Your Calling - iLoveStudents.com
"It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."

Ephesians 4:11-13

What is your role as a minister?

Pastor

We often think of Pastors as the pastor of our church, the man of God called to lead and preach at our church. But a pastor is anyone who is called to oversee and shepherd the spiritual progress of a group of people. For example parents are pastor/shepherds as they guide their children spiritually. The same is true of your role as a minister. God has called you to shepherd a group of college students and to lead them toward Jesus. Your role as pastor/shepherd involves loving and caring for his flock. A pastor/shepherd prays for the flock and feels a great burden for its spiritual growth.

Teacher

Another vital role you play is that of a teacher. You have been called to teach the flock the Word of God, so that they might be prepared to do good works. Teachers lead by example, just like Jesus led the 12 by example. He taught them through relationship and deeply impacted their lives. As you prepare your lesson, as your impart the truths found in the Word, as you spend time with them not only on Sunday morning but throughout the week, you will show college students your dedication. Every moment becomes an opportunity to teach them more about Christ. Your role as teacher is that of a guide, coach, friend who by example and through the Holy Spirit leads others to be like Christ.

Evangelist

I can’t help but add this last vital role. At times it is easy to assume that your students understand the gospel message. I encourage you to make it a point to meet with your students individually and to ask them if they have trusted Jesus as their Savior. As you converse with them over coffee or a coke ask them to share their testimony with you. Their testimony (or lack of) will give you a clear idea of their personal faith journey. If you are not sure they know Christ, make every effort to share Christ with them and to invite them into a saving relationship with Jesus through faith.
